The capital city of Hanoi will build nine large-scale shopping centres under its overall draft scheme for municipal trade development until 2020, with a vision to 2030.

Under the draft, five out of the nine shopping centres will become regional ones, including the Long Bien-Gia Lam Urban Area, Soc Son District, Chuc Son Town, the Hoa Lac Urban Area and Phu Xuyen Urban Area.

Specifically, an international trade centre will be built in the Western West Lake Urban Area. Meanwhile, Tu Liem District and the Dong Anh Urban Area will each have an international exhibition fair centre.

In addition, the draft details the development orientation for the market network in the city. In particular, for urban markets, the city will curb the building of new markets in the inner city and select several large-scale markets of over 10,000 square meters to upgrade into central markets. Retail markets covering 5,000-10,000 square meters, at the district or inter-district level, will be shaped to meet people’s daily demands. Some small markets with an area of less than 2,000 square meters will be re-zoned into type three supermarkets and food stores.

The draft, put out by the Municipal Department of Industry and Trade, will be submitted to the Municipal People’s Council for approval in the fourth meeting session./.
