The 7th edition of the “Wecyc (We Cycle) Week” under the slogan “Creating Low-Emission Zones” has been launched by the Architecture–Construction Forum (Ashui.com) to mark the United Nations’ World Bicycle Day (June 3).

Since the 1990s, many countries have established low-emission zones in urban areas to restrict polluting vehicles, improve air quality, and promote sustainable urban transport. To date, over 320 low-emission zones have been created across Europe.
In Viet Nam, initial steps have been taken to establish such zones, aiming to restrict high-emission vehicles while encouraging the use of green transportation. The Ministry of Construction has issued a circular defining green and clean vehicles, providing priority lanes and access for low-emission vehicles in designated areas. Conversely, vehicles that fail to meet green standards will be restricted in specific planned zones.
As a sustainable mode of transport, bicycles not only reduce environmental pollution but also improve public health. They help cities pursue green growth goals and contribute to Viet Nam’s national commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
“Wecyc Week”, held annually during the first week of June, is an initiative launched by Ashui.com in 2019 in response to the United Nations’ World Bicycle Day on June 3 and World Environment Day on June 5.
The campaign aims to promote the habit of using bicycles and eco-friendly transport to reduce carbon emissions, helping to maintain clean air and a healthy living environment in Vietnamese cities.
Beyond environmental protection, “Wecyc Week” also encourages physical exercise, disease prevention, and fosters a sense of community among individuals committed to green and sustainable living.
After seven years, the programme has attracted tens of thousands of participants in major cities like Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City. It has contributed to initiatives such as the development of dedicated bicycle lanes in the coastal city of Hue.
