On November 1, 2024, in Hanoi, the Institute of Building Materials (VIBM, under the Ministry of Construction) organized the International Scientific Conference “Materials of the 21st Century”. This is one of the events in response to the 55th anniversary of the Institute’s founding (November 4, 1969 – November 4, 2024). Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Van Sinh; many domestic and international managers, experts, and scientists attended the event.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Sinh delivered a speech at the Conference.
Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Sinh said that up to now, Vietnam has become one of the countries with the largest production of construction materials in the world. Construction material enterprises are constantly investing in production lines applying modern technology to create new and environmentally friendly construction material products especially cement, tiles, construction glass, sanitary porcelain, concrete,…that are diversified in design, type, and size. Vietnam's construction material products not only meet domestic demand but also aim to be exported to many countries around the world.
The conference also focused on the challenges facing the construction materials industry in the 21st century, including resource shortages, quality of human resources, pressure on environmental protection, and climate change.
In that context, the Deputy Minister highly appreciated the idea of the Institute of Construction Materials and the Vietnam Green Building Council to organize the international scientific conference "Construction Materials of the 21st Century", attracting the attention and participation of many scientists, experts, managers, domestic and international scientific organizations, and enterprises related to the construction materials sector from many countries, together identifying development trends, and discussing and proposing solutions and orientations for sustainable development of construction materials in the 21st century.
The workshop gathered nearly 60 presentations on the fields of construction materials such as cement, concrete, ceramic materials and construction glass, construction materials, metal materials, wood materials... The conference addressed not only the enhancement of material properties but also focused on the challenges facing the construction materials industry in the 21st century. These challenges include resource shortages, the need for alternative materials, and the development of green and ecological materials. Additionally, there was an emphasis on the construction materials manufacturing industry's responsibility in managing waste from other industries and promoting the advancement of a circular economy.
Director Nguyen Quang Hiep spoke at the conference.
Speaking at the workshop, Director of the Institute of Construction Materials Nguyen Quang Hiep emphasized the important role of construction materials in construction and urban infrastructure development to serve the country's socio-economic development goals. He also noted that in 2 days October 31st and November 1th , 7 component workshops, with the following topics will be taken place: Environmentally friendly cement and concrete; Sustainable development solutions for construction materials; Application of aluminum and glass as construction materials; Application of waste as construction materials; construction materials for green buildings; construction materials for sustainable infrastructure; Wood and biological materials, containing carbon used in construction.
